Monday December 26

Before Alan headed off to Kempton this morning I managed to catch him for his thoughts on our Tuesday runners, and, while it was disappointing that Midnight Prayer did not make the cut for the Welsh National, we still have a strong Chepstow contender for the card’s main supporting race, the Finale Junior Hurdle, in Dino Velvet.

Alan said:”We won this race with Franchoek and Walkon and, like that pair, Dino Velvet gets the trip well which is just what you want at Chepstow. The ground is still on the soft side but that won’t bother him. There are only five runners, but it looks a hot renewal.

“However, Dino Velvet is tough and stays and looks just the right type for the race, and he is a progressive young horse who is 2-2 over jumps and I was pleased how well he won at Sandown.

“We also have one runner at Kempton, William H Bonney in the two-mile handicap hurdle. He has been off the track since the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March, but he is in good order and ready to return.”
