Monday April 4

We hope to make a flying start to Grand National week with a winner in the opener at Wincanton, with Awesome Rosie heading for the novices hurdle which is being billed as a match between us and Warren Greatrex (Via Volupta).

Alan said:”Awesome Rosie was probably out of her depth against Limini and company in the mares novice hurdle at last month’s Cheltenham Festival, but Tom Bellamy looked after her when he saw she was beaten. She had previously made Chocca Wocca go all the way when beaten a neck at Market Rasen, and we feel that this step up in distance will suit her.

“Tom rides ‘Rosie’ again, leaving Wayne (Hutchinson) to go to Warwick for Pemba in the novices handicap hurdle and Azzerti in the first of two bumpers there. Pemba fell early on at Newbury on Saturday so makes a quick reappearance. We put her Exeter disappointment down to the very holding ground as she was never coping there, but on her earlier form she would have a solid each-way chance.

“Azzerti showed a lot of promise on her first run at Kempton, running green but travelling well for a long way, and that experience should stand her in good stead. She will hopefully be right there at the end.”
