23 horses were put through their paces on the schooling ground this morning, and thankfully, due to a good amount of rainfall in the recent week the string were able to school on the grass over fences and hurdles. We have also been able to start using one of our main grass gallops the ‘Valley’ grass gallop which we starting using last week. An extremely effective gallop it provides a great alternative in the horses normal work regime and not only a great means to improve the horses fitness, the horses enjoy having a canter on the grass.

The horses have been running well on the whole, with some good winners and plenty of runners finishing in the frame. Smad Place made his seasonal reappearance at Kempton last Monday and put in a great round of jumping and eventually ran out a 8 length winner with the very talented Fingal Bay chasing him home for second. It was a great performance and it should hopefully provide a great stepping stone to his next appointment which will be the Hennessy at Newbury.

Yanworth also had his first run of the season last week in difficult conditions at Exeter, sadly visibility was poor that day but from what we did see he travelled through the testing ground with ease, and despite a few minor jumping errors he ran home a cosy 1 1/4 length winner.

We are looking forward to a good week with plenty of entries and a few new additions to the yard will hopefully get their chance to run later on in the week and with the Paddy Power meeting looming we will hopefully have a reason to celebrate over the weekend !
