Jamie Insole joined Barbury Castle stables in August 2013 and is the 19-year-old nephew of National Hunt jockey, William Kennedy.
As a young teenager, Jamie spent all his school holidays with his uncle, William, travelling around different yards and riding out. He also spent a couple of his summer holidays working in national hunt yards. Jamie had his first ride in a charity race at Cheltenham when he was 16. The following year he rode for Gordon Elliott in the St Patrick’s Day Derby charity race at the Cheltenham Festival.
Much to his disappointment, Jamie’s parents made him stay on at school to do his A-levels but he made sure he travelled the two-and-a-half hour round trip once or twice a week to ride out before he went to school for John Berry and Neil King in Newmarket.
On leaving school with his A-levels under his belt, Jamie took out his amateur jockey licence and joined Nigel Twiston-Davies.
