Fidux did us proud when signing off our jumps season with a brave third at Sandown last weekend, and, while many of our winter performers are off on their holidays, there is still plenty to do at Barbury with around 35 horses being prepared for a campaign on the Flat this summer.
Alan has already chalked up four winners from just 27 runners, and he hopes number five might be just around the corner, courtesy of War Chief in the mile handicap at Chepstow on Friday.
He said: “We bought War Chief for £17,000 at last year’s Breeze-Up sales, and he confirmed his debut promise when bolting up by five lengths in his maiden in the soft at Salisbury in October. He’s got a rating of 80 for his first handicap, so he could be interesting.”
We also have a couple of runners over jumps at Fontwell on Friday evening, and Alan added: “Talkischeap is a nice bumper horse who finished a good third at Stratford, and he starts his new career in the maiden hurdle. He is a very slick jumper and this two miles and three (furlongs) will suit him, so, hopefully, he’ll run well.
“Our other runner is Canford Chimes in the bumper. He, too, has been showing plenty of promise and was only just run out of it at Exeter. The first two pulled clear of the rest in what looked a decent race, so I’d be hopeful about him, too.”
