Thursday January 14

Only a millimetre of rain has fallen at Huntingdon since Monday night, so it’s all systems go for one of our favourite venues tomorrow, where we have three runners with solid chances.

Alan said:”Sceau Royal runs in the feature Chatteris Fen Hurdle. We had planned to give him a break, but he has been in such good form that we thought we might as well have a crack at this as he has matured and is very much the finished article this season.

“Sceau Royal’s Cheltenham form could not be working out better – the second and third finished 1-2 in last week’s Finale Junior Hurdle at Chepstow, so the plan is to run here and then go for the Adonis Hurdle at Kempton on February 27.

“We start tomorrow with The Unit in the EBF Qualifier. He won last season’s sales bumper at Newbury, but after his comeback run in another bumper at the Paddy Power meeting we found him not to be quite right and he was treated for ulcers. He is pleasing us now, and it will be good to get him started over hurdles.

L’Unique is our other representative in the novices limited handicap chase. She had a stiff task in Grade 1 company last time, but she schooled well on Monday and seems in good form.”
