Royal Ascot last year was one which Alan will never forget, with Primitivo giving him his first success at this prestigious meeting when landing the King George V Handicap, and he can again boast a toppers ‘n tails contender for next month in Top Tug.

You could not fail to be impressed with the manner in which Top Tug slammed a competitive field at Goodwood on Saturday, and Alan afterwards confirmed that the five-year-old’s target would be the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap (formerly the Bessborough) on the Friday of the Royal meeting (June 23).

Alan, who is hoping that Potterman might be able to extend his record in bumpers this season to 4-4 by making a winning debut at Huntingdon today, is justifiably excited about Top Tug’s summer campaign.

He said:”Top Tug ran really well when second to Frontiersman at Newmarket’s Guineas meeting, and it looked that day that the step up to a mile and six might suit him at Goodwood.

“He stays well, but he is also equally effective at a mile and a half, so the stiff climb at the end of the Duke of Edinburgh should play to his strengths. After that we could well have a look at the Ebor at York in August.”
