The last four favourites in the Queen Alexandra Stakes have been beaten and 13 years ago Corrib Road sprang a 25-1 surprise, so while Tuesday’s impressive Ascot Stakes winner Thomas Hobson is a worthy favourite for the final race of the 2017 Royal meeting tomorrow, hope springs eternal that either First Mohican or Grumeti might recapture some of their old sparkle.

Alan said:”First Mohican is a law unto himself, but he’s been a great servant and owes us nothing and if he is in the mood who knows, while Grumeti ran well on his comeback at York last month and he, too, deserves to take his chance again.

“Both ran in the race last year without worrying the judge, but the ground should not be a problem for First Mohican and I hope Grumeti will handle it ok, though a shower or two would not go amiss.”
