Saturday August 19

Alan has accumulated a well-balanced equine team at Barbury these past couple of years, with the Flat squad doing so well that it is no longer a case of keeping things ticking over through the summer months, and Lord Huntingdon (Bangor on Wednesday) and Magic Moments (Wolverhampton yesterday) both ensured that there is a spring in everyone’s step in the mornings this week.

Lord Huntingdon made a successful return to hurdling with a very pleasing performance, while dropping back in trip was never going to be a problem for Magic Moments, who bounced out of the stalls in front at Dunstall Park and made every yard over the six furlongs of the tapeta surface.

Hopefully, Nathan can keep the ball rolling in the opener at Newbury today, and Alan said:”He confirmed the promise he has been showing in maidens when winning his first handicap at Bath a fortnight ago, and, though now 6lb higher and taking on older horses, he looks a progressive sort who should again be competitive.

“The weather Gods threw everything at Newbury on Friday, so the ground is bound to be soft, but it was on the easy side when Nathan won at Bath, so fingers crossed he will be able to cope ok.”
